State fines Tahoe Keys Marina

Tahoe Keys Marina received five citations from the state Department of Industrial Relations.

Inspectors had been at the South Lake Tahoe marina in April. The state Occupational Safety and Health Administration opens an investigation when an employee files a complaint, there has been an injury or a complaint has been filed. Cal-OSHA is designed to protect workers from health and safety hazards in the workplace.

“The penalties were for things like no injury and illness prevention plan, the way they stored cylinders, HAZMAT issues and no crane wheel guards,” Jules Bernstein with DIR told Lake Tahoe News.

The marina was fined $1,310.

The state also issued 13 information memos altering management that potential exposure exists if employees come in contact with those issues. These are issued when the state can’t prove employee exposure at the time of inspection, Bernstein explained.

Copper,Yeah the Tahoe Keys Marina has some very, very serious problems! Cal-Osha? Just the tip of the iceberg!!!
Yeah, they did not maintain their equipment, or general facillities ,or having records of having done so since the aquisItion of the property by the new owner.
Next up was the the sewage “leak” behind the resturaunt, The Fresh Ketch. No clean up and no fine!
Raw sewage flowinng into the lake is aparantelly no problem! Nothing like sittinn’ on the beach and watching the toilet paper float by the shoreline!
Then the newest thing is grading public land to be turned into a dirt parking lot adjacent to the Tahoe Keys Marina, even tho they don’t even own the land! That land is state owned land and public property!!!
Yet the Tahoe Keys Marina decides they can take it and bulldoze it without purchase, no tile to property, and no permits for destruction of a enviourmentaly sensitive land close to the lake that he does’nt even own!!!! Welcome To Lake Tahoe! OLS

For once OLS we agree. What is going on at the marina? $1300 fine isn’t going to do squat.

While $1,300 may seem like a minimum fine. It is important to remember that the owners don’t appear to be botherd by the expense of a failed business venture that is already millions of dollars in the red, otherwise they would have kicked their criminal GM to the curb years ago. While the $1,300 must have not hurt their bank. The shot their ego defiantly did, they now know they are not above the law and that their lack of managment has concquinces. The employees got a safer work place I feel the OSHA investigation was effective and necessary.
