ADA lawsuit attorney still targeting businesses
By Tim Day, News10
STOCKTON — On the very day Stockton business owners were invited to a workshop on how to avoid ADA-related lawsuits, the attorney responsible for filing so many of those lawsuits was across town shopping, and reluctantly, interviewed.
Scott Johnson doesn’t deny filing thousands of lawsuits against businesses with disability access issues. Even if those businesses make changes to meet the Americans with Disabilities Act, Johnson also alleges personal damages into the many thousands of dollars.
Johnson was insistent on getting into his van and avoiding News10 questions when spotted Wednesday, but he offered a few comments.
Johnson has targeted South Lake Tahoe and North Shore businesses in the past.
Boo friggin’ hoo. How long has ADA been the law? If you own a small biz that still isn’t compliant and you get sued blame yourself.
Even bottom feeders need to make a living.
This bitter attorney needs to give it a rest and find peace in his own heart.
He has proven himself to be nothing but an opportunist and not really at all about affecting change. Why continue with the damages following compliance?
Mel your comment might make sense if all laws were applied equally, but they are not are they?
As for me I’d think it would be imminently fair and just to issue citations with fix it or pay due dates.
This guy is making hay in another shyster lawyer action that our society has come to expect and unfortunately accept.
All I want for Christmas is Tort reform.
Last I heard he was being sued by one of his former employees for sexual harassment.
FYI Mel. Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990. “I want to reassure you right now that my administration and the United States Congress have carefully crafted this Act… Let the shameful wall of exclusion finally come tumbling down.” Bush Sr. at signing.
ADA Amendments Act of 2008 broadens the definition of “disability” for a greater number of Americans. Signed by Bush Jr.
