Snippets about Lake Tahoe
• Reno Tahoe Helicopters based out of Lake Tahoe Airport received its air carrier certificate from the FAA. This allows the company to offer charter services for air taxi in the United States, including tours to Napa, Calistoga, and Sonoma.
• Here are the El Dorado-Tahoe and Sierra roadwork schedules from Caltrans for this week.
• Diamond Peak has delayed its opening; with not set date on the calendar.
• Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival is putting on two plays in 2015 – “Romeo and Juliet” and “The Fantasticks”. Discounted tickets are on sale through Dec. 31.
• There will be a handbell concert at Hope Lutheran Church of the Sierra (930 Julie Lane, South Lake Tahoe) on Dec.14 at 6pm.
I am very excited about the Tintabulations Hand Bell Concert at Hope Church on Sunday. I missed them when they were at the library and I can’t think of a more wonderful way to get excited about the holidays. Fun stuff!
Why is Tahoe Heli allowed to or is it allowed to give tours in Desolation Wilderness. I witnessed this many times on a Saturday this past summer while hiking in Desolation. This does not seem right or legal. No one hiking or backpacking in a non-motorized wilderness wants to be buzzed by a helicopter. It’s non-motorized, get it !
Steven, thats a good question and it does seem to be in violation of the Wilderness Act. Might be worth a call to the USFS special permit person. I know that there are things that have to be done to get those kinds of special use permits(and they arent a given) which include public comments and Environmental impact studies.
