Study: Colorado sees increase in pot smokers
By John Ingold, Denver Post
As marijuana legalization took hold in Colorado, the estimated percentage of regular cannabis users in the state jumped to the second-highest level in the country, according to new federal data.
When asked, roughly one out of every eight Colorado residents over the age of 12 reported using marijuana in the previous month. Only Rhode Island topped Colorado in the percentage of residents who reported using marijuana as frequently.
The results come from the National Survey on Drug Use and Health and represent the average of estimates gathered in 2012 and 2013.
The numbers are among the first measurements of marijuana use in Colorado to be released after it became legal in late 2012 for people over 21 to use and possess marijuana in the state.
Do more people admit to use now that it’s legal? Hard to know statistically I would think.

In other news, water is wet, fire is hot, and the sun rises from the east.
DUHHHHHH, pass the joint….
What Colorado is seeing with this experiment is an increase in transients and homeless people migrating there from a CBS News report that is out there which is a trend seen elsewhere. The crime magnet called cannabis as an industry has always been trouble and will increase wherever it is easily available and sold and produced. The Sheriff in this county just asked for a ban on growing because of the criminal element that is trying to move in. Just as illegal drugs dominate crime in Mexico for smuggling and crime here and the Emerald Triangle has seen a record number of drug related murders this year and a number of people missing. People should beware this is not a “harmless” substance. It is making north state counties unsafe to travel in certain areas during harvest time with an invasion of criminals setting up shop and a false economy and major environmental damage with heavy use of outlawed pesticides and water thefts.
Justice,
I, um, er, a, I agree with you.
Illegal grows are a major problem.
As with the prohibition on alcohol, making this substance against the law boost the price and makes it a “cash cow” for organized crime.
Legalize it and turn it over to big business. Put age constraints on it like alcohol, regulate the distribution, like alcohol, and let people make their own choices.
Then it will be a substance that is FAR less harmful to anyone.
