South Lake Tahoe council salaries to double

image_pdfimage_print

For the first time since 1998, South Lake Tahoe City Council members are receiving a raise.

The five current members voted themselves a raise Jan. 20. The pay goes from $452 a month to $946. If they work 20 hours a week, this comes to less than $12 an hour.

The state dictates how much the salary may go up – 5 percent per year. Going forward the council will bring this to a vote every two years instead of waiting so long. Raises may only be given after a new council member is seated — another state rule.

The annual cost per council member will be $8,358. This includes workers’ comp, CalPERS, Medicare and the like. The cost to taxpayers is $41,790 for the five.

In their discussions all five hope this bump in pay will help attract younger, full-time workers in the future who might now be able to afford to take a day or two off work for council commitments.

Hahahahahahahahahaha!!!!! Take the money and run. Classic.

Dog, that was a pitiful, the raise was well over due. I would think even your time is worth more than that, let alone the dirt thrown at council members by people on boards like this one.

Reloman, obviously Dogula’s time has ZERO value. He/she spends at least 6 hours a day responding to everything on this website for FREE! It’s clear that he/she has nothing better to do with his/her life.

On another note, could you imagine if all of that time had been spent volunteering at his/her local church, school, Boys & Girls Club, etc. Nah, let’s just spend it trolling the internets!

Sorry Dog you did not get yours, this was way over due. They still get paid nothing for the job they have to do, I wish you well Dog, maybe one day you will get what you think you deserve in this world, so glad I’m not you.

    About time !!
Some of you may recall many years ago some of the council members had to resort to selling “snow ” to survive on their meager salaries. But that was when the snow was very “deep “.
    and another story. Lol.
    Kiwi.

Wow! A bump all the way up to $946 big ones a month. And all they have to do is spend countless hours reading and interpreting hundreds of pages of agenda packet documents to prepare for each Council meeting and then spend several hours attending each meeting; spend countless hours reading the documents for the multiple Commission assignments they each have and attending all of those meetings; and tolerate the continual mocking, deriding and name calling from some members of the public.

What a deal! All that for what I think is certainly less than minimum wage.

No wonder people don’t line up for that opportunity.

Dog, still pointing fingers, go figure…

Thankless job. They deserve the bump. Typical Dog response.

4merusmc..you mean like all the lovely people also using their free time to denounce dog? it would be nice for a change that people in disagreement of a comment would simply present their side…but…hardcore liberals like the above will always do what they do…sigh.

What? My comment about people not lining up for that opportunity was general in nature.

However since you addressed me, I think the ultra-conservative sector that post on this site very adequately provide their fair share of denouncing against those whom they consider hardcore liberals or with whom they disagree for whatever purposes they deem appropriate. Seems to me that they don’t have any problem holding back or holding their own.

    Just my opinion.

@BO….you do your share of trash talking. Your selective vision is almost cute.

B/O-what a hypocritical statement. Typical Republican/Teapublican tactic….publicly accuse others of the very same thing you are doing, then act all innocent and offended.

    #Thumbs down!

  13. business owner says - Posted: January 21, 2015

last June they were crying broke, something about not being able to buy Toilet Paper.

  15. Dogula says - Posted: January 21, 2015

It’s just damn funny how desperately some people want to trust the people in authority. Doesn’t matter how many times they show you exactly what they’re about, you keep trusting the lies and the theft.
Thank you, Sir, may I have another?

  19. sunriser2 says - Posted: January 22, 2015

    Chief and Relo,

    Great posts!!

Maybe letting people enjoy Tahoe without charging them every time they pull over works in the long run.

I wish they would have installed the old parking meters at the “GREEN” high school. For students and teachers. The money could have been used to eliminate charging for the bus system.

Show them what cap and trade is all about.

  20. nature bats last says - Posted: January 22, 2015

    BO. Yup, pretty stinky…

  21. Hmmm... says - Posted: January 22, 2015

I know how to balance my CHECKBOOK too. I even know how to spell it. I also know the difference between they’re, there and their. I’m guessing that you don’t own a bookstore.
