Human skull found on West Slope

A resident panning for gold on the West Slope found more than he wanted. He unearthed part of a human skull.

The El Dorado County resident was in the Bear Creek picnic area near Traverse Creek Road on Feb. 10 when he came across the remains. The person had been digging in the dirt when the discovery was made.

El Dorado County sheriff’s detectives have anthropologists assisting with the investigation.

No other body parts have been located.
