Incline’s Radio Shack on closure list
Radio Shack’s bankruptcy filing this week is affecting Lake Tahoe.
The Incline Village Radio Shack store is on the list to be closed. The South Lake Tahoe store is one of the 1,750 that will remain open.
The stores staying open are expected to become co-branded Sprint stores.
The company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy this week. The announcement included that nearly 4,000 stores will be shuttered.

Good I don’t use Radio Shack much but when I do it is the only place locally where I can find odd bulbs and batteries this has to be a plus for this area
Radio Shack, over the years, has stocked less and less individual electronics items for the experimenter, etc. Still, sometimes it WAS the only place around that had any stock of many items. I’ve purchased some various items there myself over the years.
btw…I still stock a lot more strange lamps than Radio Shack does, or ever did. Amazing how many lamp types are used in such as HiFi equipment, even musicians gear. …blatant plug:

I’d really NOT like to see our local store disappear; nor, be converted into something that hobbyists would not find useful.
Appears that the store here at South Lake Tahoe will remain…GOOD!
I went into Radio Shack a couple of weeks ago for some specialized batteries for a flashlight. They had ’em, but for the number of batteries I needed, it would have cost me $15. That’s more than the flashlight cost.
I went home and checked Amazon. They had my batteries for $4, free shipping with Prime.
That’s what happened to Radio Shack.
Very knowledgeable and focused staff. Customer service is very good there. But then again, I’m no electricity expert either. And yeah, I get my batteries on Amazon too. Thanksgiving sale there is cool too.
I have never had a good experience at the SLT Radio Shack. I used to buy my stuff at other Radio Shacks as a kid as they were the “cutting edge” stores. Kinda funny as I think back. But THIS store is terrible with less than knowledgable help and on one instance, the kid was so rude and condescending, I left and called the store manager. No response. After leaving another message with no response, I called the district manager and again no response. Any business can make a mistake with the bad hire of one person, but for a store manager AND a district manager not to return a call from a customer? Let Radio Shack close out and become one of these nostalgic references to a chain in another decade. Until another small business replaces RS’s over priced products, Amazon is here to save us. For the price Radio Shack charges for a set of batteries, you can ship it Next Day for less money.
Good riddance!
Most people shop as I do on Amazon for items you are going to need or want. Last summer we were making donuts at Lakeview Commons at the SUP races. Business was good and the donuts were moving fast when I blew, actually melted the fuse block on my Richard Grey power conditioner. A trip to Radio Shack and about 15 minutes I was able to rebuild it and we were back in business before the oil got cold. Without RS we would have lost of money that day. I have been in there a lot over the years and 99% of the time I am in repair mode and don’t want to wait a day or two for Amazon. That’s why I like Radio Shack. Not to mention the after Christmas sale on toys.
