By Roberto A. Ferdman, Washington Post

When the nation’s top nutrition panel released its latest dietary recommendations on Thursday, the group did something it had never done before: weigh in on whether people should be drinking coffee. What it had to say is pretty surprising.

Not only can people stop worrying about whether drinking coffee is bad for them, according to the panel, they might even want to consider drinking a bit more.

The panel cited minimal health risks associated with drinking between three and five cups per day. It also said that consuming as many as five cups of coffee each day (400 mg) is tied to several health benefits, including a reduced risk of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes.

Holy smokes, did I just read this? Coffee has health benefits? This world is practically living off caffeine already, why drink more? Consider getting some sleep instead!

Not very good reporting. I’m assuming that the caffeine is the reason, but the reporter never really gives us that.

This summary report does use the term “caffeinated beverage” I don’t think the article was designed to summarize the study. The links are interesting.

What is a surprise to me is that per capita, we are not drinking the amount of coffee we thought we were.
I do remember as far back as 1950, and my grand parents and my parents often had a percolator on the “keep warm” burner most of the day when they were home.

I am doing my part…. going through a 12 cup pot per day between my wife and I. My first daily pleasure is hearing the coffee pot start up…it serves as my alarm clock.

It is addictive…if I don’t drink coffee for a day, I will for sure get a nagging headache, which can be cured in an hour or less with a strong cup of coffee.

Coffee has a multitude of health benefits, and heck yeah, drink more! The health benefits come from the higher grown arabica species beans, which is an argument in support of buying Specialty grade coffee.

Make sure you purchase locally small-batch roasted coffee, in order to reap the ultimate benefits and support our community.
