We came upon the incident right when it happened at approximately 8:40PM according to the video I took. A blue SUV was struck by some of the slide causing it to slide out of control and slam into some rocks on the othe side of the tunnel deploying the airbags. Me and another gentleman rolled rocks out of the way enough to allow traffic to pass through in the “slow lane”.
It actually started at 3:30am saturday morning when I was coming home from my job on the north shore. A huge boulder at the entrance of the tunnel in the right lane. I think they should have monitored it better. I called 911 immediately and my co-worker came by at 4am and NDOT was out there with a tractor.
We were driving west from Glenbrook about 10:30 pm and hit stopped traffic a mile or so from cave rock. I had never been stopped in traffic here in my long history at lake Tahoe. I made the assumption that their was either an accident or rock slide at Cave rock.. Turned around and made the long detour into Carson and then over Kingsbury to get home…..sounds like I made the right call…
