Names of the six people injured in a head-on crash on Highway 50 on Feb. 28 have been released by the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Paul P. Yang, 33, of San Diego was going east in the left lane “in a manner too fast for conditions,” according to the NHP. The Toyota Camry crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a Volvo driven by James R. Killebrew, 33, of Carson City.

The collision on Saturday occurred about 8:48am near Hidden Woods.

Passengers in the Camry were Abraham Kong, 19, Emily Chan, 29, Romando Sai, 29, and Weo F. Ye, 32, all of San Jose. All six were hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

    Shocking!

Not sure what you find shocking about this, driving too fast for the conditions has predictable consequences.

  3. Gaspen Aspen says - Posted: March 2, 2015

    So does the driver

  4. Hmmm... says - Posted: March 2, 2015

    Clearly a veiled racist comment.

Now let’s not jump to conclusions. I am sure if you ask Gaspen they will tell you they are not bigoted in any way and we have no reason to doubt them given their history.

Clearly humor. Gaspen has a sense of humor regarding the reputation of certain drivers.
Sit back and take a deep breath. Not all ethnic humor is racist except when not uttered by a certain political class. Take that great ethnic humorist Joe Biden; Please.

Given the body of Gaspen’s comments, I stand by mine.

Flatlanders speeding while driving in snowy/icy conditions and take out someone from the area. Go figure. Has nothing to do with race. Has everything to do with lack of respect for mountain living, knowledge of driving mountain roads, & driving capabilities. People seem to think that by driving a 4wd vehicle they have super driving capabilities. All 4wd does is give you better traction when taking off from a sitting position. People come here for a vacation from the hustle and bustle of the city. When they get here they forget to slow down and take a deep breath. For being such smart city folk, they arent very smart to mountain living.

last time I checked a Camry is not 4wd

There is a difference, Beagle, between “laughing with”, “laughing about”, and “laughing at”.

  11. Gaspen Aspen says - Posted: March 3, 2015

Hmmm: Why don’t you call “Flatlanders” racist? It describes a group of people. Sounds like YOU are the racist here. Look in your cracked mirror.

I agree that too many visitors do not know how to drive in the mountains (curvy) in any conditions. As much as I despise road signs, maybe our welcome to Tahoe signs should include a simple sentence that reads “…and mountain driving. SLOW down, drive safely, and enjoy!”

    Live & let live….

GasAss your reputation proceeds you. Guess I am not the only one to call you on your racist remarks. Tolerance and respect would go a long way.

  14. Gaspen Aspen says - Posted: March 3, 2015

Nim-Rod: I don’t tolerate or respect you. If comments offend you, too effing bad. Get over it.

  15. Hmmm... says - Posted: March 3, 2015

Flatlanders describes(disparagingly) a segment of the population based on where they choose to live, not based upon their genetic or ethnic makeup. as such I would call ‘flatlanders’ a bigoted term, but not a racist one. For instance, you can change where you live. You can’t change who your ancestors were.

You are just upset because you got called on your BS, when you were sitting at your keyboard all smug about your supposedly ‘witty’ comment. You thought you got away with one. You only fooled Beagle. You are a troll.

  16. Seriously? says - Posted: March 3, 2015

Tahoser, ya didnt want to get on the racism bandwagon huh? Im well aware a Camry is not a 4wd. It was an example. Lighten up. And P.S. Flatlander (to me) is not bigoted nor racist. It simply describes where they live. I realize there is a negative connotation to being called a flatlander. P.S.S. I assumed Gaspens comment was due to the “in a manner too fast for conditions,”. Why do we all have to argue every day?

It’s just an accident on a snowy day, That’s all. But with so many experts here with their snarky comments or bickering gets old.

Hmmm: I don’t get upset in these forums. It’s entertainment, nothing more.

wondering if this Killebrew is related to Hugh Killebrew of Heavenly who was killed in a horrific mid air collision which rained his plane down onto hwy 50 at echo summit in 77.

Ignorant ethnic humor is what passes for ‘clever’ in wingnut world- Simple things amuse the simple minded

  21. duke of prunes says - Posted: March 3, 2015

“Why don’t you call “Flatlanders” racist?”

There are no stupid questions. Only stupid people.

  22. Gaspen Aspen says - Posted: March 3, 2015

Prune juice: I was referring to the word Seriously used describing them. I guess it went over your head. Have a nice day.

It used to be that offensive comments offended the folks or groups toward whom they were directed.

Now offensive comments also offend those of us who, while not targeted by them, are offended that they should be directed toward anyone.

Thus a single offensive comment offends far more folks than it used to – to the encouragement and joy of offensive people. Who are the bane of many internet forums.

The tourists are always at fault right. Drive around town this Wednesday and watch all the locals run red lights and try to intimate you at stop signs buy racing into them and finally stopping five feet past the line.
