If you renew your Nevada driver’s license by mail, beware: Soon, you won’t be able to use it to board an airplane.

As of November, only licenses renewed in person at the Department of Motor Vehicles are recognized for federal use. That means expired licenses renewed by mail can’t be used to access federal facilities, as of October won’t work at military facilities, and beginning in 2016, won’t be accepted to board commercial aircraft.

Why the change? In 2005, Congress passed the Real ID Act, a federal law designed to combat terrorism and identity theft by standardizing how state IDs are issued. The law set basic criteria for receiving a driver’s licence or identification card, such as which documents states may accept as proof of identity and residency.

I bet if you are one of O’Bummers illegals who get a free license, they will have no problem. He said he wants to “fundamentally change America”. He IS, right off a cliff to destruction….unless you are an illegal or muslim.

Last time I flew, I just used my passport. I like using it better than my DL. Doesn’t have my address on it.

Wow, so now if you dont have the correct papers, they can keep you hoarded in your own state? Maybe even when driving? Im having flashbacks of Nazi Germany. Didnt we already provide all of these docs in order to have the first license issued? Isnt this why we provide our unique thumb print? And a gold star? Really?? Pretty tacky choice of symbols to be using. This poor world is ready to implode and cleanse itself.

When is this going to apply to CA licenses? I have a passport also, so perhaps it is not an issue for me, but it seems like having a fully compliant drivers license could be handy in many contexts.
