Nev. teachers may be reimbursed for supplies

Nevada senators have approved a bill that would reimburse teachers who buy classroom supplies with their own money.

The Nevada Senate voted unanimously Monday to approve SB133, which is sponsored by Senate Majority Leader Michael Roberson and other Republicans. It would allow teachers a reimbursement of up to $250 per year if they request money for qualified classroom expenses.

The bill calls for $5 million in state money for the program over the next two years. The measure now moves to the Assembly.

Lawmakers still need to approve a tax plan to provide money for the school supply program and other new spending items proposed this session.
