Nevada Legislature OKs record budget, adjourns

CARSON CITY — The Nevada Legislature came to a halt at midnight Monday, capping a day that saw approval of a record $1.1 billion general fund tax package to fund Gov. Brian Sandoval’s aggressive education package and a dizzying day of dealmaking.
When combined with $336 million directed to the state school fund, the total tax measure stretches to $1.4 billion. With two hours left in the session, the Assembly gave final approval to the last of five budget bills authorizing Sandoval’s $7.3 billion two-year general fund spending plan.
Committees met on short notice and on the chamber floors throughout the day. Lobbyists and lawmakers pitched amendments to bills. And the Senate and Assembly processed bills until the very end.
Once the clock struck midnight, anything twisting in the wind died. The Senate adjourned for a final time, sine die, about 12:18am.
So the Republican governor lied and broke promises, as did the majority of Republican legislators.
In November’s election, a VERY similar tax was soundly defeated by the voters. The legislators who were voted in all ran on fiscal conservatism.
Clearly, they are not governing with the consent of the people. But until 2016, there isn’t a damn thing the citizens of Nevada can do about it other than continue to be very vocal in their displeasure, and to keep the names of the legislators who voted for these massive increases in the public eye.
They supposedly serve at our pleasure, and we are not pleased.
HaHaHa, you can run but you cant hide….
If you’re so fond of politicians who lie, government, and taxes, why don’t you donate all your money to the pot?
I am always amazed at your glee in seeing other people harmed.
Because nature has moved up the success ladder as far as he will get and hates that others do better (which is alot of people). Misery loves company.
Whos being harmed? The kids that will benefit from more education opportunities as the state tries to improve their dismal record? Or you who wants everything for free? Just because im ok with contributing towards the good of my community, state and federal opportunities by paying my fair share. Its the uber rich and corporations and churches with all their tax breaks that you should spew your venom at. You can run from state to state to avoid paying but the truth is that life and all its benefits are not free.
