Opinion: Calif. economy depends on Latino schooling

Latinos are now the largest ethnic group in California and will continue growing. Half of all children under 18 in California are Latino.
The demographic change impacts just about every aspect of our society, none more critically than our economy. With this young and growing population, California has a consumer market and workforce rivaled only by entire nations.
The future of California’s economy will be determined by how well we educate our Latino population and develop our workforce. It’s not just a matter of preparing our workforce. We are also concerned about creating a two-tier economy, or a two-class California that will threaten our prosperity.
Gee, how did California ever survive or thrive before??
Why not just say we need to be sure our YOUTH are educated? Why does the left insist on separating people by race or by class every single chance it gets?
Who ARE the racists in this society? Socialists separate people into groups. Libertarians believe in the sovreignty of the individual.

The solution to all problems does not lie in your favored political arenas. Of course we should educate all our youth, but all our youth are not at the same degree of preparedness. This is the point, not that they are being grouped by class etc.
The Latino population discussed has a significant number of kids who didn’t get a good start in school due to various circumstances beyond their or their parents control. The language issue alone causes some problems with education. These kids are just as smart as any kid the world over. Look at how quickly they become functionally bilingual when given the chance. (A much higher proportion than non-latino kids for sure)
It has nothing to do with ethnicity except for the fact of the large number, pushing half of our entire population.
It doesn’t matter if you are a Dem, a repub, a libertarian, left wing, right wing, atheist or religious nutcase….the situation described in the article is one which must be resolved for the good of all of us.

The choice is for people to want to be educated or not and what the result will be for a failing state where the jobs will be no jobs from a welfare state, or low paid service jobs, or government. The flaw of this article is that it is not “we” who must do anything that personal choice requires, to be successful or not. This really boils down to a problem of integration, education, and the simple example of the problem of the open borders and unenforced laws. This idea of a disparity and two classes of people in the state has rapidly become true if not already over. The middle class is disappearing faster in this state than any other while at the same time the poverty rate is rising rapidly. There are consequences to inaction and laws being subjective as seen by senile Jerry ignoring the laws and even the state passing a bill to fund health care at what will be easily a billion a year for people illegally in the country. Meanwhile, the taxpayers are leaving and being replaced by a rapidly growing underclass that will require more and more government services and the cycle doesn’t end well for a state that will bankrupt.
