The demographers agreed: at some point in 2014, Latinos would pass whites as the largest ethnic group in California.

Determining when exactly that milestone would occur was more of a tricky question. Counting people isn’t like counting movie ticket receipts.

The official confirmation had to wait until new population figures were released by the Census Bureau this summer. The new tally, released in late June, shows that as of July 1, 2014, about 14.99 million Latinos live in California, edging out the 14.92 million whites in the state.

I thought we Latinos were white. Confusing.

Worked and known many Latinos over the years. But like wih any group of people, including the whites, they are going to be some bad apples. I’d be more trustful of a hispanic person than some of the “whites” I’ve known.
The latinos are hard working and good people.
I say welcome the Latinos with open arms! They are underappreciated and they add a good contribution to America.
    Take care! Old Long Skiis

@’Look at this’…why don’t ‘whites’ speak White? or ‘caucasians’ speak ‘Caucasion’?

Hard to tell if you are being humorous or trying for a socio-political dig.

There are many types of immigrants to the United States, and have been for decades. I prefer the immigrants who come legally, learn the language and assimilate. The immigrants who come illegally, do not learn the language and refuse to assimilate are generally the problem. It is far more the respect and love one shows for their new country that I am concerned with than their country of origin.
