Series of gunshots heard in S. Lake Tahoe
South Lake Tahoe police’s dispatch has been busy the last two Saturdays with calls of gunshots.
What sounded like two gunshots were fired, then a pause before two more rounds went off just before 10pm July 25 in the Y area. Not much later and two more suspected gunshots went off.
“Someone said it was like a high-powered rifle,” Sgt. Travis Cabral told Lake Tahoe News.
The shooter was not located.
On July 18 about 6am dispatch received about 30 calls saying nine to 10 gunshots had been fired.
Officers located evidence of fireworks having been shot off from a driveway of an unoccupied residence on California Street as well as in the Sky Meadows area. Three juveniles ran from the scene, but could not be located.
People are urged to call SLTPD at 530.542.6100 if they see or hear suspicious activity. Fireworks of any kind are illegal in the Lake Tahoe Basin. It is also not legal to fire a gun in the basin unless for self-defense or with a hunting permit.

I heard these gun shots as well. It sounded like they were very close to where I live near the Y. My guess is it was another deranged individual with a gun shooting at local wildlife. These idiots dont think at all. Probably drunk or on meth, sitting around shining the gun to make it look pretty and then the light bulb goes off “hey I should go shoot my gun” and there you go…GUNS SUCK!

A few weeks ago my husband and son were mountain biking behind Tahoe Mountain. Someone was firing a gun up at the trails where people were hiking, biking and walking their dogs. Several adults called 911 and they were told that it is legal to fire a gun in the basin and they did nothing.
Now the teachers want to move to Utah where teachers are allowed to pack in a school so they can hit kids.
All kidding aside, during the 80s, about once a week at times, someone was apparently discharging ammo in the meadow between the Upper Truckee river and the Keys. Supposedly the rancher getting rid of coyotes.
nature bats last – Im sure that big awful gun was just laying there bored and thought to itself, “Self, I’m bored and want to go fire myself all willy nilly around town for something to do.” That gun is probably the same thing that is going around stealing everyone’s bikes and is spray painting the town, & leaving trash laying around. We need to start neighborhood watches, step police patrol in neighborhoods, have stricter punishments for teens(and adults)who are doing these things and get rid of all bohemians that have invaded our little town. We need to take our town back, start educating people & help people understand that we do not tolerate or support this type of behavior.

Ban all teenagers and those that once were in order to stop this insanity! The nerve of it all to be fleeing after lighting fireworks that sound like evil guns to all liberals who don’t know the difference, ban them all, that will work! On the other hand, bans don’t ever work, but they do make liberals think they did something.

I used to hunt with my Dad. These were def not fireworks going off

I was getting into my truck in front of my GF’s house on Sky Meadows Court at 5:50 AM when the fire works went off. They were commercial grade and did sound like gunfire. I thought it came from James Ave. I later found out they put them off in the wooded area at the end of Sky Meadows Court.
