In the 1970s, eateries in this Highway 50 landmark included Karmelkorn & Homemade Candies, Danelo’s Italian Delicatessen, and Shakey’s Pizza Parlor.

Four decades later, the same area in today’s remodeled building features Tep’s Villa Roma restaurant. Lake Tahoe Coin Jewelry & Loan is next door, left in the above photo.

Fifty and more years ago, the entire building was home to Nel’s Variety & Tahoe Supply Company. Since the 1960s, occupants have included the above named, a casino-wear store, telephone service, unemployment office, furniture store, and others.

Bill Kingman, Shakey’s pizza! A fine eatery! I collected unemployment there at that building for a short time when I was between jobs. Suzi Henthorn worked at the unemployment office for awhile. We dated off and on thru the years. Thanks, OLS

Skakey’s was a great little hang out in high school. They had a good little game room and pizza. That’s where I played my first game of Asteroids!

As to ‘game rooms’, my favorite was the series of pin-ball machines (remember those ?) along the wall at Tahoe Bowl, where, while waiting to participate in the ‘pot games’ (for money, with ‘visitors’), a guy could ring up 65-70 games (won), then sell them all when the time came. . .

I remember the Karmelcorn lady, as we called her. I rode my “dill pickle” bike there to get white chocolate. I also remember Jay’s Shell station on the corner of Fairway and 50.
