The incumbents on the Tahoe Paradise Resort Improvement District board are being challenged to force an election in November.

For years this parks board has been appointed by sitting members. Four of the five seats are supposed to be elected, with the fifth being appointed by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors. The District 5 supervisor usually fills that seat.

Four seats will be open on the Nov. 3 ballot. The terms of Judy Clot and Pete Nelligan are expiring. Those are for four-year terms. The other two seats are for terms that expire Dec. 1, 2017. Joe Cardinale and Victor Babbitt are in those seats.

Running for the full term seats are Babbitt, Clot, Brandie Jordan-Griffith and Diane Verwoest. Cardinale, Nelligan, Jan Roman-Gonzales and Frank Jones are vying for the short-term seat.

I think that it is wonderful to see so many people interested in the Park. It is a great time to look into a sustainable paradigm for the community treasure that the Park is. I have been somewhat concerned to see the loss of income that the wedding business brought to the Park and the increased spending as this current trajectory is not sustainable. I wish the new Board all the best in their endeavours and want to express caution in buying in to “pie-in-the-sky” plans that put the Park in jeopardy financially. The money will run out. The only back-up plan that I have heard expressed is to raise taxes. Don’t base your spending on future tax hikes. Voters aren’t having it.

Having lived in Meyers for 40yrs I hope the new board can make it a place that Meyers can be proud of. The concerts this summer have been a great start to show the people in the county that we can become our own community separate from the city. Also the Mountain bike events have been a great plus. I know of people coming from the Carson Valley to participate. Go Meyers
