‘Godzilla El Niño’ would not end drought

The strengthening El Niño in the Pacific Ocean has the potential to become one of the most powerful on record, as warming ocean waters surge toward the Americas, setting up a pattern that could bring once-in-a-generation storms this winter to drought-parched California.

The National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center said Thursday that all computer models are predicting a strong El Niño to peak in the late fall or early winter. A host of observations have led scientists to conclude that “collectively, these atmospheric and oceanic features reflect a significant and strengthening El Niño.”

“This definitely has the potential of being the Godzilla El Niño,” said Bill Patzert, a climatologist with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in La Cañada Flintridge.

In California, officials have cautioned the public against imagining that El Niño will suddenly end the state’s chronic water challenges.

In fact, it would take an astonishing 2.5 to three times the average annual precipitation to make up for the rain and snow lost in the central Sierra mountain range over the last four years of drought, said Kevin Werner, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s expert on climate in the western United States.

“Niagara Conservation Water Saving Toilet Tank Bank” I got two of these for my two toilets, I was impressed with the reviews they received. I figured anything will help at this point. They are not expensive and if you have a 5 gallon toilet as I, this will save you around a gallon per flush. Like I said anything would help in this crisis placed before us. Just Google the brand name and do your part please.
    Thank you,

A couple of bricks would be cheaper.

Local2, Yes there are simple things we all can do to conserve water. Low flow toilets, getting low flow water heads in your house, getting double use of your water rather than pouring it down the drain.
It’s all simple to do and it all adds up. OLS

Bricks can damage the tank over time. Fill a gallon jug that will fit in your tank with water. I use a large iced tea jug. It fits tightly in my tank. Place it in the tank away from the moving parts to displace the amount of water that refills after flushing. Even a couple of shampoo bottles would save some water with each flush.

I suggest to watch the pine squirrels very closely for signs of what they know about this winter. If they are carrying a lot of cones to store it might mean something then again they might be hungry, if you see them looking for extra small rain jackets it might mean something coming, then again and as anything predicted with what is an educated guess, they might know more about this winter and be as accurate as any forecaster looking months away.
