Zalanta will break ground this summer in South Lake Tahoe.

Zalanta – meaning spiritual mountain – is the name of the first hotel project that will be built at what has been known as the Chateau project.

Zalanta Resort at the Village has replaced the name Chateau at the Village.

Construction will begin any day on the 32 condos. This full ownership lodging facility will give owners the opportunity to put their units into a rental pool; so the property will also be operated like a hotel. Sales of the condos will begin after the permit from the state Bureau of Real Estate is in hand.

This is one of two hotels – per the original TRPA permit – to be built in South Lake Tahoe on the 11-plus-acre site near the state line.

Tahoe Stateline Ventures, a subsidiary of Owens Financial, is owner and financier of the project that includes a pool; 19,477-square-feet of retail; upgrades to the streetscape; and public fire pits on 3.4 acres.

This segment of the development should be finished by spring 2017.

How much did they pay to come up with that name?

Zalanta should be Native American for “big hole in ground to which you pour money”.

Sounds like an antacid from the Dyspepsia Tribe in southern Pyloric.

Closer meaning is High Mountain. Used as a Native American girls name, I think. Also spelled Zaltana.

Did anyone on the development team even consider speaking to tribal members before naming it with native language? Not exactly the Native American style that should be honored with their words.

What happened to the people who bought into the Chateau? Did they lose their money and now the same property is being sold to others?

Zalanta? Just another time share. Those worked out so well in the 70’s! The people who sell these places changed the name to “interval ownership.” Sounds a little better,eh? Now they are called a “rental pool” or in the case of Edgewood they call theirs “cabins”. It’s all in the wording.
You are just paying for a small room with year round payments that you will maybe use for 2 weeks a year. Have fun! OLS

I like the name Zalanta. It sure beats the word “Squaw” or “Ta-hole.”

Zalanta Resort will be full ownership luxury condominiums.
