High rates of bacteria found in ground beef

By Carina Storrs, CNN

Every time you eat a burger, you could be getting a side of bacteria with it. Most packages of ground beef in the grocery store contain at least one type of bacteria that could make you sick, according to a survey by Consumer Reports.

Researchers looked at 300 samples of ground beef from grocery stores in 26 cities across the United States. They included a range of leanness and cuts, from sirloin to chuck. About 40 percent of the packages bore labels stating they were “organic” or that the cows had been grass-fed or had not been given antibiotics.

The Consumer Reports team looked for five types of bacteria that have been found on beef, including E. coli O157, a strain that causes bloody diarrhea and abdominal pain and has been linked with the highest number of outbreaks of foodborne illnesses from beef.

Golly gee…with all the hormone disrupters and growth enhancers and antibiotics they pump them moomoo’s full of, who would ever have thought it? Thank goodness the gub’mint regulates your food chain so carefully…oh wait, they don’t!

This is what happens when we have a revolving door from government agencies to corporate/industry lobbyists…and vice-versa.

Yea, lets keep the meat industry in charge of their own oversight, what could go wrong?

Maybe we should all choose to not eat beef any more. Just an idea…

Nothing new; this is why they’ve been telling you to cook your hamburger well done forever.
But I have to laugh at Bats. Keep the meat industry in charge of their own oversight what could go wrong? REALLY? People get sick in big enough numbers, people WILL stop buying their products. Government oversight doesn’t let us know there’s a problem till a lot of people have been sickened usually, anyhow!
Come to think of it, let’s let the government be in charge of its own oversight, too. You know, the people who take as much money from you as they want and spend it however they please? Without giving you any choice about how they spend it? Oh yeah. They ARE in charge of their own oversight. And we don’t have the option of declining to purchase their product.

What kind of depraved sociopath finds humor in someone’s concern about dangerous health risks in our food supply?
What kind of deranged sub-human thinks that the invisible hand of corporate greed should decide when enough of our citizens are poisoned that something should be done because profit and their bottom line might threaten shareholder returns?
    I find these ideas reprehensible.

Yeah, you’re right. The invisible hand of the bureaucrat should make that determination. *snort*
Have I offended your tender sensibilities Totaled? Boo hoo. Join the rest of the country; the entire population is offended by something these days. Get in line.
Taking offense is not a valid defense of your opinion.

The meat industry has been regulating themselves for god knows how long…the government is prohibited from ordering a meat recall in this country. Every single meat recall is VOLUNTARY! Often they will wait till the majority of the tainted meat has been bought and consumed until they act with slow motion urgency all the while shedding crocodile tears and feigning honor and righteousness. WTF!!!

Sorry Dog, it seems like you are taking up multiple places in the “i’m offended by…” line.
