Calif. DMV offering ticket amnesty program

The California Department of Motor Vehicles has created an amnesty program designed to assist qualified drivers with paying unpaid traffic or non-traffic infraction tickets, by reducing fines by 50 or 80 percent.

The 18-month program begins today.

Applicants must contact the superior court in the jurisdiction where they received the traffic ticket to find out if they are eligible to participate.

California drivers with outstanding infraction tickets originally due for payment on or before Jan. 1, 2013, and those seeking to have their driver’s license reinstated may qualify for the program. This amnesty program does not apply to parking tickets, reckless driving, and DUI offenses.

Courts, counties, and other authorized collection agencies may charge a $50 amnesty program fee.

Why not?! Moonbutt is doing basically the same thing with early releasing Felons. Gotta love this ridiculous state.

So scofflaws are being rewarded for not paying their tickets? What message does this send to violators who paid their tickets in full?

This is a good program for people who can’t afford the increased fines for paying late, but want to take care of the problem. When I lived in San Francisco they had a parking ticket amnesty program. Anyone living in that city, knows you can get a parking ticket in front of your house for not moving your car for one hour for street cleaning. It helped me settle up and I took care of all the tickets for the original fine plus $1. The program clears up minor tickets and gets people on track.

BTW, Kits I can never take you seriously calling anyone names the way you do. Governor Brown must be doing something right, he was elected four times and helped get California get back on economic track. Whereas you sit on this site and call people names.
