Calif. lawmakers travel to Australia for drought lessons
By Associated Press
California lawmakers are joining environmental, labor and business leaders on a trip to see how Australia managed its longest and most severe drought on record.
The nine-day visit that began Monday comes as California finishes its fourth year of drought. Australia endured a 12-year drought from 1997 to 2009.
Democratic Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León of Los Angeles says California can learn how to adapt to what could be more frequent extreme weather due to climate change.
Assembly Minority Leader Kristin Olsen, a Republican from Modesto, is among the 11 lawmakers from both political parties on the trip.
Also attending is California Water Commission member Daniel Curtin.
The trip is organized and paid for by the California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy, a nonpartisan, nonprofit think-tank.
Hahahahahahaha! As if any pertinent information couldn’t be passed by Skype meetings or other online sources.
Non-partisan, non-profit think tank. . . right. Influence peddling at the VERY least. Wonder exactly who funds them?
Just your public servants, spending your money on a lovely trip to Europe. Don’t you wish YOU could have somebody else finance YOUR jaunts?
What incredible cojones our public servants have.
Uh, Europe is somewhat northwest of Australia. Or I suppose northeast, depending on your direction of travel – yours, I presume, would be to the right.
Dog. Interesting that you yourself are trying to pedal your moronic influences anonymously while anybody can find the CFEE and get information and background.
Remember, Envy is one of the deadly sins Dog and it really isn’t becoming.
Regarding the thread. It seems reasonable to me to investigate how other Countries and/or Regions deal with drought because we are in one.
‘Scuse me. Not sure why I said Europe. I know where Australia is. . . just an absent-minded error.
I stand by my statement, though. There is absolutely no need for them to go there. They could learn all they need to know online. Like budget-conscious normal humans do.
Envy’s got nothing to do with it. If I spent other people’s money the way our “public servants” do, I couldn’t live with myself. Not sure how they justify it.
Let’s dismiss that minor mental hiccup as an anomaly and read everything again.
So what is your problem with this trip?
“Envy’s got nothing to do with it. If I spent other people’s money the way our “public servants” do”
They are spending other peoples money. Do you think that the taxpayers paid for this? What budget are you concerned about?
“Just your public servants, spending your money on a lovely trip to Europe. ”
Uh huh… the Europe part is not the big problem here.
From the article:
“The trip is organized and paid for by the California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy, a nonpartisan, nonprofit think-tank.”
…
You misread Australia as Austria, which is a symptom of a larger problem of reading comprehension.
Billy. F.O.
You and your buddy R4T would argue against whatever I say regardless of what it was. You of all people, who makes himself out to be the scientific giant of this community, should understand that such an expenditure for travel is completely unnecessary in this technological age.
But you’d rather die than agree with me. Your need to feel superior is bizarre.
I know that you don’t know what happened during the trip. Your opinion is rooted in ignorance. I assure you the trip was more involved than ‘they could’ve done it on skype’ to be a valid alternative. How could you possibly take issue with someone not agreeing with your opinion?
Try this: type a comment. Count to 10. Press Ctrl + w. It will remove the stupid from whatever it is you are trying to do, I guarantee it.
Also your notion that I am so proud of being able to read the last sentence of a very short article is silly. Yup, I do what is expected of middle school students, its a major source of pride for myself and my family. It is the primary reason why I am a valuable asset to the scientific community. God hired me to tutor Jesus and with my help he was admitted to a Yeshiva University. We play chess online every week. I let him win because, you know… his dad is a real hot head.
I give up….surrender
Wrongula, again….always its the end of the month madness….so sorry but dont forget to press ctrl + w. That would apply to many trolls here. Good by stoopid… hahahahaha, I like that…
Lake Tahoe North and South has been the source of scandal for many years, and it didn’t start with the Sinatra gang at CalNeva but has spread to include the entire Lake area.
GREED GREED GREED
There are plenty of unsolved disappearances, murders right here at the South Shore alone.
BTW there is no statute of limitations on murder.
Perhaps while they’re Down Under, they can also look into the management of the immense forest fires & the flash floods, along with their drought observations. . .
In sustainability, I have major clients in Australia, who point out that they have been experiencing all of them to the degree that they have passed a ‘tipping point’ about 4 years ago now. . .the Murray-Darling watershed is a good example of what we might expect; even though CA thinks of itself as the most progressive in the US, it is perhaps not enough – even while it does say a lot about all the other states being so far behind…as most still have a head-in-the-sand. . .
They’ll all come back and try to ‘shoehorn’ Aussie realities into US political gamesmanship, as Australia has the same split-adversarial system as we are now enduring, with more threat, not less. . .
Dog. The recent Australian drought lasted about 15 years (1995-2010). I am certain that being on the ground in Australia is a much better information gathering process then search engines and internet video.
The CFEE spent their money for the trip, not you.
Your jealousy of others is not very becoming either.
RECTAL CRANIAL INVERSION
If California is the most progressive in the U.S. God help us all.
Robin, you know what they say about opinions.
Yes Rock I do;)
I’ll never understand how you “progressives” consider it greedy to want to keep one’s own hard-earned money, while thinking it’s somehow noble for civil servants to take other people’s money by force and spend it on extravagances.
The only difference between the mafia and this government is that the mafia usually keeps its promises and gives some value back for what it takes.
(Where does the CFEE get its money? No tax dollars? My hind-end.)
Dog. Mafia Government? Really? When was the last time a member of the Government came to you home or business, put a gun to you head and said hand over your money?
In case you are interested, CFEE took in $1.5 million in 2013; all donations with $0 from Government grants.
Please. Just keep watching your re-runs of Mad Max and stop with the Meth Moron keyboard crap.
Lol! R4T, REALLY?? Congress doesn’t dirty their hands in person any more than a mafia don does. They have their hired thugs do it for them. The IRS.
If you don’t pay, what happens? They put you in prison. If you resist, make no mistake: They WILL kill you.
But you didn’t address my question about why you think it’s greedy to want to keep one’s own money, but fine for armed thugs from the government to steal it for their own benefit.
Dog. Why, because you’re on Meth and in need of therapy.
Revenue Agents perform Tax Audits. Revenue Officers perform collection actions. IRS Agents/Officers do not carry weapons. Special Agents of the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) perform criminal investigations of alleged tax fraud similar to Special Agents at the FBI.
Get that Dog, TAX FRAUD, like they got Al Capone with.
You enjoy the fruits of living in the United States like everyone else so pay up; Taxes keep the internet going, transportation going, water, sewers, courts, ports, security, armed forces, etc.
You have never answered MY question of where the better Continent or Country is either.
We have a Great Country here Dog, Love it or leave it.
