Closures possible on Camp Rich bike trail
Construction work will cause delays or temporary closures of portions of the Pope-Baldwin Bike Path over the next few weeks. This is better known as the Camp Richardson bike trail.
The U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit is rerouting portions of the bike path near Camp Richardson Resort to provide a better, safer experience for riders.
The Forest Service does not expect closures to last more than half a day and will provide alternate routes when possible.
Is this code for cutting down more of the trees along Hwy 89? They raped the campground area resulting in a horrible loss of trees and effectively placing the campground on the highway. It seems like there will not be a time when enough “work” has been done.
Hiker. Really? “they raped the campground?” If you want to see a real “clear cut” I suggest you drive North because this was a thinning. In a “clear cut” nothing is left standing except beauty strips along the Highways.
It’s a conspiracy, the forest service is tricking the public into rideing bikes and camping in the forest so they can build bike paths and build campgrounds which ultimately allows them to cut trees and “rape the campground”…. What’s next!!
[insert links (to research papers about how the historic forests before logging were a lot less dense than treated forests are today, how thinning increases biodiversity, etc that won’t be read) to support my position]
… nevermind.
Look around your home. If its not grown its mined. Which would you rather have?
Ya, developed recreation in the National Forests requires some tree removal. It is a sad reality. Maybe peoples frustrations need to be directed at the proposed Brockway Summit Campground that is only currently drawings on a draft table. That area would be more suited to action by folks that dont want new development and a much bigger timber removal operation than thinning trees at an already developed area. The ruse is when the USFS says they are thinning and removing hazard trees and what they really are doing is “cherry picking” older stronger trees to make it fiscally viable to the logging company that cant make any money on spindly little stuff that will just get chipped.
Voice your opinion, better yet write the agency and tell them what you think. Show up at planning meetings, join a group that is fighting the plans, write letters to the editor, demand a formal response and accounting of the proposal. If you see the cutting and road building happening, its too late to get it stopped, unless you find an endangered species or water violation. Good luck…
