‘Code Black’ reveals realities of hospital’s ER
The movie “Code Black” is a behind the scenes look at the day-to-day activities of Los Angeles County’s Emergency Department.
Three of Barton Memorial Hospital’s emergency physicians attended residency at LA County and will provide an insider’s perspective of LA County and Barton hospitals after a free screening of the movie.
“Code Black” will be shown Nov. 7 at 6pm in the board room at Lake Tahoe Community College in South Lake Tahoe. It features some graphic medical scenes, so parent discretion is advised.
Speaking of ER (at Barton)… does Barton have a pharmacy? About 20 years ago around New Years with a heavy snow, I broke my leg & was taken by ambulance to Barton. I declined the hard pain killer meds in the ambulance (think I was offered Morphine). After I was treated, the pain was worse – just enormous with the cast feeling like a vice-grip on my leg. I could not even get an aspirin at Barton because I was an “out-patient” waiting HOURS for a cab to come take me home via a pharmacy! Talk about “CODE BLACK” – unbelievable!
Moral of story – ask our ambulance driver if there is a pharmacy at Barton before you decline pain meds in the ambulance!
A person leaving Barton’s Emergency room is typically “in the red” when Barton bills them for extraordinarily high charges for everything they can dream up.
Code Black refers to Barton being “in the black” when that person pays the bill.
