A South Lake Tahoe woman who accused a man of sexual assault has admitted she lied about the accusations.

The woman reported having been sexually assaulted early in the morning of Aug. 28 at a residence in the city just hours after having met the man.

The man in question voluntarily went to the police station after learning he had been singled out.

“As a result of that interview and subsequent follow up, the allegations made by the victim were unfounded. No criminal charges will be filed in this case. The victim has been refereed to support services,” South Lake Tahoe police officers said in a statement.

Who is the victim, him or her?

ummmm, hmmm, duh the guy is the victim. She LIED to the police about a very serious allegation. The guy has his picture in the media as wanted for sexual assault. The guy probably spent his hard earned money on a lawyer.

So lets see, the guy has his character defamed. He suffered a financial loss. He probably lost a lot of sleep over the lies. I can’t imagine the stress he was under.

She should really have charges filed against her. He should have a good case against her as well regardless of her intention or motive, she LIED!

    That WAS my point, Louis.

Why are they allowing her to just go? Isn’t filing a false police report against the law? This just allows another female to do the same thing with no repercussions. They need to set an example of her and not continue to treat her like the victim.

I agree that false charges are horrible. You may recall the Oakland kidnapping earlier this year. However, in this case, we can presume the authorities realized compassionate care was more appropriate than prison. The gentlemen can file civil charges if he feels the need for recourse.

Kudos to the gentleman who came forward voluntarily. That took courage! Sexual assault has deadly consequences – especially for those who have been falsely accused.

Julie, I am not familiar with the Oakland kidnapping charges you speak of, and can not find them in a simple search.

However, for a polite discourse let me say, we are a nation of laws. Sometimes police can use discretion when enforcing those laws (eg letting it go when you speed). Those are usually crimes against society, when society probably isn’t really harmed.

However in this case an individual, has been harmed and victimized. The big purpose for laws is to protect people in our society. What’s to stop her from moving to another jurisdiction that knows nothing about this case and her doing this to another man?

This is why charges need to be filed against her, even if they are dropped, this way there is a permanent record for all law enforcement to see a pattern of behavior should she do this again.

Now I am not saying she should get a felony conviction and go to jail for decades. Perhaps a misdemeanor would be appropriate. Often when there is a conviction or admission of guilt a court will put in compensation for a victim, OR given that a civil suit has a lower standard of proof, it would be a much easier win for our harmed citizen. Whereas she has been, “refereed to support services” which is voluntary and she can skip out whenever she wants.

He deserves justice too. Why? Because to protect society, justice needs to be for all, not based on one person’s feelings.
