South Lake Tahoe plastic bag ban expands
South Lake Tahoe’s ban on plastic single-use carryout bags at retail establishments went into effect today.
The ordinance took effect for grocery stores and food vendors on Jan. 15, 2014. For all other retail establishments the rule is effective Oct. 15.
The city said it is seeking voluntary compliance and has no intention of immediate enforcement.
According to the ordinance, the rules affect a “retail establishment that sells perishable or nonperishable goods, including, but not limited to, clothing, food, and personal items, directly to a customer. … A reusable carryout bag or a recycled paper bag may be provided to the customer.”
JC’s gotta be apoplectic about this.
looks like a lot more paper bag use.
Looks like more tax dollars going to Nevada.
Already got 2 reusable bags for no pay. What a load this is. Get a grip, reusing bags is a no brainer. To those who are not able to operate without a plastic bag I feel your pain.
Really what is the fuss? Plastic bags and plastic water bottles are a disgusting example of a thoughtless, careless, throw-away society. We are better than this, get over it.
HOWEVER!!! The nice big black plastic bags LINE the streets…full of critter food and shelter materials.
NICE
Plastic bags are not the danger or the hazard our political masters would have us believe they are. Norovirus spread by reusable grocery bags is however.
