PLACERVILLE — A 16-year-old boy has been arrested in the killings of his father, the father’s fiance and their 7-year-old son, whose burned bodies were found in a cabin on the West Slope.
El Dorado County Sheriff John D’Agostini said at a news conference that 16-year-old Nolan Buchanan was arrested at his high school Thursday. District Attorney Vern Pierson said at the news conference that Buchanan will be charged with murder as an adult.
Authorities found the bodies in the aftermath of the fire on Sept. 13 at the family’s cabin in Greenwood.
The remains were identified as 37-year-old Benicia resident Adam Buchanan, his fiance Molly McAfee, and their son, Gavin.
It wasn’t clear whether Nolan Buchanan has an attorney yet who could comment on his case.
Very sad that so many young people have the capacity to kill.
There should be some swift justice for animals like this. The problem is the system has not been working and dealing with violent criminals for so long that there are far too many of them who think they can get away with these heinous crimes.
Justice once again you prove the simplicity with which your mind works. You seem to be content living a reality that only consists of black or white and are completely blind to any shades of grey that fill the real world. And you love to pass judgement with little or no facts with which a rational person would seek before espousing their opinion.
And by no means am I rationalizing this young persons behavior, but there could be much more than meets the eye to this story. But like always, knowing the facts is something you seem to hold in high disregard.
Liberals seem to have a complete lack of understanding about what evil is and when it is so evident as to require swift justice. This case demands it as charged by the DA and the laws of this state. Seeing nothing but “gray areas” is a disease.
Justice:
As a liberal and a Jew I support our Constitution which demands that all defendants are entitled to a fair and impartial trial by their peers, regardless of the guilt or innocence. So I for one, believe in the Constitution. If the evidence is as damning as it appears, he will likely be tried as an adult and convicted. Where you and I likely disagree, is like the Catholics, the death penalty is not supported by Judaism. In fact, only one individual has ever been executed in Israel, Eichmann in 1962, which in fact caused quite a stir in Israel at the time. The U.S. stands alone among western democracies in allowing capital punishment. It in the end, the death penalty does nothing to stem crime.
Rick
Rick, I disagree. In this country throughout our history up until modern liberals wrecked the judicial system, swift punishment for capital crimes was normal and has always been supported by a majority. It doesn’t mean years of delays in appeals funded by taxpayer paid attorneys. This juvenile has been charged and will be most likely convicted on the evidence. Your wrong in that a convicted killer put to death, has never been able or free to kill again. Those held under life sentences have often killed again in prison. Capital punishment is a just punishment and justice for the victims.
Justice, funny that, violent crime has shown a steady decrease in this country during the last 25 years. Also, there are no evidence that the death penalty is a deterrent. But live in your fantasy world if so so desire.
Rick
No common sense answer is ever enough for a liberal who can’t argue the facts. Violent crime in many areas is rising and property crimes are as well. Living in a fantasy world is for soft on crime liberals.
