EDC schools chief hasn’t worked since DUI arrest

By Diana Lambert, Sacramento Bee

El Dorado County schools chief Jeremy Meyers hasn’t returned to work since he was arrested Thursday for allegedly driving drunk for the second time this year, and the county Office of Education does not have an official explanation for his absence.

Meyers, 45, allegedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.19 percent, more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, according to the CHP. He was arrested after he crashed his truck into a utility box at about 2pm and was suspected of driving while intoxicated.

County Office of Education spokeswoman Dina Gentry said Tuesday she doesn’t have any information about when Meyers plans to return to his duties. She had no information on whether he has contacted anyone at the office about his plans. As an elected official, Meyers can set his own hours.

Students, parents, taxpayers, and motorists are all safer if this happy hour clown simply stays home, out of the office, and off the roads. Collecting an undeserved paycheck from the taxpayers is a whole different discussion. Why even have a Board of Education if this guy can misbehave and do whatever he pleases?

@Steve – Why have a Board of Education? You should attend a meeting to find out. This bad apple does not reflect the bunch.

Hopefully he is getting help. He obviously needs it… It’s very sad for him and his family.. Alcohol being the #1 abused drug in this country has no boundaries with whom it can affect. All of us know an alcoholic or many of them… I hope he is seeking help right now. If this shame doesn’t kill him then the disease most likely will. He is still a man and simply needs help before he kills himself or someone else.

Born…One bad apple spoils the entire barrel. The “bunch” BOS should be overseeng these types instead of covering and/or passing them off on some unsuspecting ‘bunch’ of parents and their chldren

The stupidity of the wingnut teabaggers attempt to starve public education in order to privatize our school systems is enough to drive anyone to drink-
having a few cocktails is fine in my opinion-but not during work and ferchrissakes don’t drive!-
There’s help available-Be thankful you didn’t hurt other people on the road and get it

I lived in Europe for a while. Having wine at lunch was normal. Americans abuse and overindulge in almost anything then make laws to restrict everything. And ya’all think you live in the greatest country on earth.

This is an obvious personal crack-up. The reasons will be in his personal life. This much is certain, if he isn’t ordered into an in-custody rehab, something really bad might happen and the judicial system needs to act now.

My friend John Barleycorn also enjoys his vegetables dissolved in ethanol. He can’t chew well due to numerous fights that resulted in the loss of many teeth. Seemed like a good idea at the time as he didn’t like vitamin pills to replace needed nutrients in vegetables he could not chew.

All this at $200K a year salary! How is this exorbitant amount justified?

I guess ‘him not working’ is one way to keep from driving drunk during school hours!
