Health officials: Don’t eat Dungeness crab
By Nanette Asimov and Paolo Lucchesi, San Francisco Chronicle
Do not — repeat, not — eat crab caught along much of the California coast until further notice. That’s the stunning message issued Tuesday by health officials just days before Saturday’s start of the recreational crab season, which may be delayed.
The California Department of Public Health is warning that potentially deadly levels of domoic acid have been found in Dungeness crab and rock crab caught along the coastline between Oregon and the southern border of Santa Barbara County.
As a result, the state Office of Environmental Health Hazard Assessment is recommending the Dungeness season be delayed and the rock crab fishery be closed.
The buffet at Harrahs, see where crab comes from .Do not want people sick, Please be careful.Crab is served there every sat night .
They serve Snow Crab.
This is really bad news for everyone that eats and an entire industry. I wonder if fish also have high levels of this domoic acid and if anyone would tells us if they knew.
Last week it was all the cured meats, beef and non-organic pork, that we shouldn’t eat. Now crab. Oh wait, the veggies have pesticides and fallout from air pollution, oh dear, oh no….. we are screwed.
I would caution against eating all seafood at this time. Studies are showing massive contanimation as a result of the continued Fukishimi nuclear disaster. Read the reports. Tepco continues to hide and suppress the real facts, but fish and marine life are showing signs all across the west coast. Massive destruction.
Ignorance is Bliss! We are not supposed to talk about the ‘meltdown’ that continues to dump radioactive waste water into the Pacific Ocean. We wouldn’t want people to panic, right? This was always the danger of nuclear power plants. It’s called the “China Syndrome”.
