Latest hotel amenity — books
By Shivani Vora, New York Times
Hotels may be giving a lot of attention to upgrading in-room technology, but a handful are going the old-fashioned amenity route: creating in-room libraries.
These libraries help guests make a meaningful connection with their hotel, said Bobby Zur, who owns Travel Artistry, a consultancy in Franklin Lakes, N.J.
“Books in your room are a counterrevolution to technology overload and are almost comforting for guests,” he said. “They also give the properties a unique identity.”
Years ago, we stayed at a hotel in Santa Monica and on the nightstand was a copy of “The Old Man and the Sea” a tome just long enough to enjoy on a weekend getaway to the beach. I have never forgotten this special touch.
I think it’s perfect that Lake Tahoe News used an image of “tahoe blues: short lit on life at the lake” for this article. Since I read that book, I have said it needs to be in every Tahoe hotel room. Actually, a tattered copy is in my guest room and I recommend it to all my friends who host a lot. Published by Meyers’ own Bona Fide Books, this collection of Tahoe short stories is the perfect way to give properties a ‘unique identity.
