2 accused of stealing package off doorstep
’Tis the season for people to steal packages left on doorsteps.
Two Central Valley residents are behind bars tonight on charges of felony conspiracy to commit a crime, misdemeanor theft, and violating probation.
South Lake Tahoe police officers said a neighbor saw a pickup drive slowly down Tanglewood Avenue on the afternoon of Dec. 3. A woman got out of the truck and picked up a package on the porch.
The neighbor called 911.
Police tracked the vehicle down at the Y.
Arrested were Brandon Graves Perreira, 24, and Virginia Morris, 26, both of Gustine. Both individuals are on felony probation for a host of drug and theft charges out of Stanislaus County.
Officers said they discovered the stolen property that had been ordered for delivery to the victim’s home.
“Theft of delivered packages is a type of criminal activity which can occur any time of year, but tends to increase during the holiday season,” officers said in press release.

If it was delivered by USPS isn’t that a federal crime?
SLT is crawling with pieces of crap like these! Time for us to enable the
Neighborhood Beat Down Program, I think!
Shell, maybe not. If its a letter in a mail box, yes its a federal crime. If its a “delivered” package on a front porch, or delivered by UPS, FedEx then no. The citizens of California passed a law recently that so long as a theft is a low value, its a misdemeanor. Its essentially a glorified parking ticket for them. Pay the fine and everything is OK. Or rather OK for them at least.
The fact that they are on probation for previous felonies is irrelevant UNLESS, committing a misdemeanor is a violation of the terms of their probation. But since this is now just a glorified parking ticket and the article does not state they were arrested. Further doing a quick search as I type of Current El Dorado County Jail Inmates, neither are currently in jail. (granted they could be out on bail) I would conclude that they are not really in trouble.
We got what we voted for.
Actually the article does say they were arrested. Yahoo. Sadly that’s the garbage society is neck deep in. No shortage of maggots.
Yes Ric, it does say they are “behind bars”, but just go to the county web page and do a search, they are not in the system, at least at the local level. Hence my conclusion must be a glorified parking ticket. UNLESS, they were transferred quickly (doubtful).
Seems that much of the crime that I read about up here is committed by central valley residents….
Well Louis… You’re wrong again… Go to El Dorado’s web page again and they are both booked and “incustody”. Felony charge for violation of probation…
We should all be lucky enough to have a neighbor like this one. In fact we should be that type of neighbor ourselves.
I’m all for the neighborhood beat down program as previously stated. If you steal a package from my neighbors you better be a fast runner!
Saw them get cuffed in Kmart’s parking lot while in the Raley’s gas station yesterday, they had that we’re screwed look on their faces. Didn’t know what was going on, there were so many cop cars involved. Nice to know the story. Thanks officers.
JUST A LITTLE EARLY CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
