SLT council waiting for lawsuit to be served

There was no reportable action from today’s emergency South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting.

They were meeting Dec. 11 to discuss the suit filed by fellow Councilwoman JoAnn Conner regarding her censure and ban from talking to city staff.

Mayor Wendy David after the nearly three-hour meeting told Lake Tahoe News, “There was not reportable action taken. We were discussing one potential case and we have not been served that case.”

City Manager Nancy Kerry was at times in the locked room with the four other council members as well as City Attorney Tom Watson.

Kerry and the city have been named in the court filings. Outside counsel will need to be hired to represent both, and it could be different people. The city will be responsible for paying for Kerry’s attorney.

Watson cannot represent the city or Kerry because he will likely be a witness to both parties.

Once the city and Kerry are served there is bound to be another special meeting to decide how to proceed.

What a circus…. what a waste of resources… Why can’t ALL public servants act in a mature fashion. They should all be locked in a room together until they come forward with a way to resolve this nightmare. Really disappointing…

Because all our noble leaders think nobody has the right to question their AUTHORITY!
(Besides, it doesn’t cost them a dime out of their own pockets. The taxpayers cover ALL those expenses for the Council. *snort*)

Last time I looked (never) the council members are humans that live in SLT, therefore they must pay taxes, therefore they are contributing to the costs of running the city as well as paying for the lawyers, etc. Just saying…

Now the city council and taxpayer are going to lose.
Was it worth it Hal, Wendy, Tom, and Austin?

Of course it is worth it “don’t give up”. Get sued by city employees because of Joanne’s behavior vs. her lawsuit. No brainer. If the employees sued it would be for punitive damages better known as cash from the taxpayers vs. Conner’s suit which is not for punitive damages. The city council protected our pocketbooks as far as I am concerned.

Interesting that while there is a threat of a lawsuit, the city has not been served. Maybe Conner and her attorney realize that the damaging testimony by city employees in a trial would destroy her forever.

I’m not a conspiracy theorist and do believe that there is no way this is a concerted effort to get Conner. She bought this on herself through her words and actions. In the world of city governance she has acted like a bully. Of this I have no doubt.

    Spot on, Reza…

What a Circus indeed…if JoAnn could just fess up to her issues and let the rest go we could all move on like mature adults (she should just resign since she’s useless now at her job anyway). But instead we all get to watch the trainwreck and continue to comment here, as if it makes any difference.
