The earth was moving and the sky was lighting up Tuesday night.

A series of earthquakes rattled the Reno area, with the strongest temblor registering 4.4. The epicenter was 3½ miles north of Galena High School.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, eight quakes ranging from 2.5 to 4.4 struck Dec. 22 between 6:22pm and 8:29pm.

The light streaking across the night sky was Russian space debris, according to the U.S. Strategic Command. It could be seen on both ends of the states of California and Nevada.
