Snowboarder White buys stake in Mammoth
By Hugo Martin, Los Angeles Times
“The Flying Tomato” has gone from carving the slopes to owning them.
Olympic gold medal snowboarder Shaun White has taken a minority stake in the company that runs Mammoth Mountain and recently spent $38 million to buy Snow Summit and Bear Mountain, the Southern California resorts where he perfected his ollies, rail slides and back flips.
As a part owner of Mammoth Resorts, White will help oversee the operation of more than 4,000 acres of skiable land in California, visited by more than 2 million skiers and snowboarders each year.
“It’s like a homecoming to me,” White said.
He’s selling out to be a So. Cal investor. Good for him but keep those LA types, where they belong….south of here. We have no use for them or their entitlement attitudes. There are enough of those invading from the bay area.
I’d like to think people from all over are welcome here.
I also would like to think we have goals to reach people all over to come visit SLT regardless of the comment by kc.
Congrats to Shawn for stepping up and investing.
Xenophobia seems to be the rage these days. If Tahoe wants to be a world-class vacation destination, it has to welcome people from all over the world, including SoCal. Shaun doesn’t merit unwarranted criticism.
Its obvious KC is a small minded individual who has become irrelevant in today’s society. I wonder how many of these posters will give their real name and actually contribute dollars to LTN. Or will they drift into obscurity?
Lake Tahoe is an international destination and we welcome all visitors.
Kits trashes Shawn White?! The guy wins American Olympic Gold and “off my lawn” is all you can think about? Wow.
Ditto Carl!
One of the reasons I love living here; the world walks by.
