Developer interested in Kings Beach event center

With the event center in Kings Beach being underutilized and the cost of maintenance an ongoing issue, the board operating the facility is entertaining all inquiries about how to make it more financially viable.

The North Tahoe Public Utility District operates the beachfront facility.

Earlier this month there was a closed session meeting between the district’s board of directors and a group contemplating building a hotel in Kings Beach. The group might be interested in tapping the event center for meeting space.

Those close to the discussion said the talks are very preliminary.

Laulima Development based in Menlo Park is the firm that met with the board.

“Laulima Development is a privately owned real estate company engaged in the acquisition, design and development of distinguished urban infill properties in the western United States. Laulima Development brings decades of experience to its office, residential, retail and mixed-use developments,” the company’s website says.

Any operational changes or capital improvements to the center would have to be approved by the board in open session.
