Updated 4:47pm:

A boulder the size of a motor home is blocking Highway 50 east of Wrights Lake.

“They’ll need dynamite or an explosive to move it,” California Highway Patrol Officer Quinn Cuthbertson told Lake Tahoe News.

The boulder was split in half a little before 4:30pm Wednesday. The debris is being cleared.

For now traffic is down to one lane, with delays in both directions.

The boulder landed in the westbound lane about 10:30am Jan. 13. It struck two vehicles, however there were no injuries.

It has been raining and hailing in the area today. Chain controls went up about 1pm between Twin Bridges and Meyers.

Cuthbertson said this area is prone to rock and mud slides, as well as avalanches.
