AT&T wants to pull plug on land-line service
By Riley McDermid, San Francisco Business Times
AT&T is pushing a bill in the California legislature that would allow it to phase out landlines starting in 2020 if there is an alternative, like cell phones, available to customers.
Bill sponsor and San Jose Assemblyman Evan Low told local CBS affiliate KPIX that the bill will help the company cut costs by ending maintenance on expensive copper wires and routing stations, while making sure customers are still connected.
AT&T estimates about 4.5 million users in California still have landlines, though.
Some of us are dependant on captioning type phones for hearing impaired.
Not every type phone fits all. I have a problem with some cell phone users
who don’t speak clearl or loudly enough. Those of us with problems such as this need to write ATT and let them know that cell phones don’t fit all needs.
This is pure crap…cell phones do not provide service to many people that are limited/compromised and no one should have to fit into a category to have a working phone
