Nevada Department of Wildlife officials killed a 2-year-old bear after it made repeated forays into the Sand Harbor area.

“It is a tough situation,” Healy said. “Outwardly it looked healthy but the behavior was troubling.”

‘According to department spokesman Chris Healy the bear displayed troubling behavior that prompted officials to capture and euthanize it.

“It is a tough situation,” Healy said. “Outwardly it looked healthy but the behavior was troubling.”’

‘More concerning were the facts the bear was active midday and how it behaved when confronted.’

In the history of the State of Nevada no wild black bear has ever killed or harmed a human. Either NDOW spokesperson Chris Healy is extremely ignorant to the behavior of a black bear yearling, or he is flat out lying to justify killing a bear. Yearlings who are learning to live on their own in an area inhabited by other older larger bears often forage at times that it may not encounter another bear while moving about. Black bears that live within a human populated area are not exclusively nocturnal, and generally adapt as they get older to forage during parts of the day that have less human traffic and is quieter, ie dusk/dawn/night. And a yearling will take a somewhat braver stance when confronted with aversion techniques because they are trying to define how they fit into this foreign landscape away from their mother protecting them, but always do so halfheartedly and are easy to move off.

Another epic failure on the part of NDOW!
