Barbecue on wood deck ignites early morning fire
A charcoal barbecue is likely what started a fire near Carnelian Bay this week, according to North Tahoe Fire Protection District officials.
The house in the Cedar Flat area caught fire about 4:10am on July 28.
Smoke woke up the residents, who then called 911 after seeing flames on the deck. No one was hurt.
The fire spread from the deck to the exterior wall.
Firefighters recommend not using a charcoal grill on a wood deck.

Watch someone will try and ban BBQ’s.
A BAN isn’t necessary!!!! Come on- just be realistic.
This is just a strong message to everyone that UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES of bbq’s and small moveable fire pits require care and extra attention to be sure they are extinguished completely not only in the summer but all year !!!!
Carl has never been funny but sarcasm is suspected here…fire is not funny and is a really serious problem people….watch your ashes!!
My tongue in cheek point is that the local governments and agencies at every level seek to control every aspect of our lives because they can. I am almost sure because we had this one incident in a million someone will seek to ban charcoal BBQ’s.
Right now in the city of South Lake Tahoe you cannot have a backyard fire pit that burns wood. You can have one if its gas but of course this requires an inspection and permit. (Again because they can.)This despite the fact the forest service allows campfires all over south shore in their campgrounds and the city in its own campground has open fires. Of course care must be taken. The current city policy discriminates against those that don’t have the financial means for a gas system and permit.
TO CONTROL THE ECONOMY YOU MUST CONTROL THE PEOPLE.
‘They’ will use force if necessary to effect this.
