obama-slt id card·       President Obama was issued a South Lake Tahoe ID card when he was in town.

·       Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless is seeking volunteers for this winter. Volunteers must complete a two-hour training. For more info, email Rachel@tahoehomeless.org or call 775.573.0822.

·       Gary Romano, author of “July & Winter: Growing Food in the Sierra,” will be signing books Sept. 26 at 6pm at Sundance Books in Reno and Sept. 30 at 5:30pm at The Bookshelf in Truckee. Books will be available at the Tuesday farmers’ market in South Lake Tahoe and at Sample the Sierra on Sept. 17.

·       Tahoe Writers Works, an open workshop for writers of any genre, meets every other Tuesday at 6:30 pm, at Bona Fide HQ — 1069 Magua St., No. 4, Meyers. Next meetings are Sept. 13 and 27.

·       Red Bull has canceled this month’s Donner Downhill. “Due to unforeseen circumstances, Red Bull Donner Downhill scheduled for Sept. 10 will no longer take place. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope to have a competitive downhill skate event in the future,” Marlene Garcia, with Red Bull, told Lake Tahoe News. She would not provide more info.
