Constituents frustrated with inability to reach Heller
By Seth A. Richardson, Reno Gazette-Journal
Nancy Lang has been trying to reach Sen. Dean Heller’s office for some time, but to no avail.
The 67-year-old from Gardnerville wanted to talk about some of the votes before the Senate – especially confirmation votes for some of President Trump’s cabinet appointees and the precarious position of President Barack Obama’s health care plan in Congress.
Especially problematic at the moment for Lang is Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos, who Heller on Wednesday came out in support of.
Heller addressed the large numbers of calls via a Thursday morning tweet” We are experiencing heavy call volumes in all our offices. Staff is answering as many as possible. Please continue calling to get through.”
I’ve known Dean Heller for years – all the way back to his car racing days. I know him to be a very moral and honorable man, a statement I’m not making about very many Republicans these days, if ever.
I understand that Senator Heller has had to ride the fence quite a bit, responding to the old saw that you can’t lead if you can’t get elected.
But the time for fence riding is over, particularly for Republicans who have, with a surprising amount of deliberance, managed to tie our future to the most dangerous man to ever get elected President of the United States.
We know you know better, Dean. We’ve given you the office; it’s time for you to lead.
The new paradigm of ignoring the constituents by hiding behind their phones, email and websites is horrific. Our great country was the experiment in getting away from Kings and Queens. Titles of nobility and tribal rules have been left behind for over 200 years under the idea that we are all equal. This new world of extreme “my way or the highway” by elected officials will surely be the end of this country. Citing an imaginary “majority” while ignoring the actual majority is tyranny.
Time to request that Heller for hold a Town Hall meeting in Carson City for concerned constituents/citizens of Northern Nevada
