High hazard Nev. dams lack emergency plans

Of more than 150 dams in Nevada that could cause loss of life if they failed, about 14 percent lack emergency plans, according to a national dam safety database.
Dam safety surged into the spotlight last week when crumbling spillways near Oroville, Calif., prompted the hasty evacuation of nearly 200,000 people.
Oroville showed how quickly confidence in even some of America’s mightiest pieces of infrastructure can crumble during a crisis.
