Lithium battery causes fire at TC school

North Tahoe High School in Tahoe City was temporarily evacuated on Friday after a lithium battery in a student’s backpack exploded.

Flames could be seen coming from a backpack that was on the floor of multipurpose room. The floor sustained minor damage.

The evacuation on Feb. 17 was necessary because of the smoke.

It is not known what type of device was in the backpack.
