Karen Rae Chapon

A South Lake Tahoe woman is on her way to prison for committing mortgage and insurance fraud.

Karen Rae Chapon, 47, was sentenced April 4 by Nevada’s Ninth Judicial District Court Judge Thomas Gregory. She is the owner of Tahoe Weddings and Events at Zephyr Cove.

Last August she admitted to filing travel claims with two forged death certificates and fraudulent invoices.

Chapon was sentenced to six years in prison, but would be eligible for parole after two years.
