Life skills taught to juvenile offenders in SLT
Eleven youth detained at the Juvenile Treatment Center in South Lake Tahoe recently received their American Heart Association CPR (cardio pulmonary resuscitation) and AED (automatic external defibrillator) certifications.
The course was made possible through the private/public partnerships of the Juvenile Service Council, Lake Valley Fire Protection District, El Dorado County Juvenile Treatment Center, and the Blue Ridge Court School of El Dorado County. This was the first time that the course was offered to the youth at the facility. They also received school course credit.
“I was impressed with the level of focus and engagement in the material that these young people showed. I hope that the training will resonate with some of the participants to give them the confidence in themselves to pursue a career path they might not have otherwise thought about,” instructor Tony Gasporra, EMS lieutenant with Lake Valley Fire Protection District, said. (He volunteered his time.)
