Douglas County workers to receive raises

Douglas County commissioners this week approved contracts with the labor unions. Commissioner Dave Nelson was the lone vote against the raises.

The 140-member strong Douglas County Employees Association agreed to a seven-year contract. It reduces the annual merit raise from 0-6 percent to 0-3 percent, and provides a cost of living adjustment based on the CPI; the latter being tied to county revenues.

A five-year deal was reached with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Protective Association as well as the Douglas County Sheriff’s Protective Association Sergeants’ Bargaining Unit. They have the same raises s DCEA. There are 85 and 14 members, respectively.

The contracts guarantee a 2 percent raise in even years, and a maximum of 2 percent in odd years.
