Free transit in Olympic Valley being floated

There is a movement in Olympic Valley area to create a tourism business improvement district is order to generate ongoing revenue to fund a micro mass transit district.

The goal is to provide year-round intra-valley shuttle service at no cost to the rider.

The money to do so would come from raising the transient occupancy tax from 10 percent to 11 percent in that area. Organizers believe this would fund 20 percent of the transit costs, with the hope Placer county would pick up the bulk of the expense. Squaw Valley ski resort has pledged to fund a large portion.

A petition is circulation online about the proposal.
