Martis Valley Trail inching closer to reality

Placer County is using $250,000 in transient occupancy tax funds to support the design and construction of the Martis Valley Trail.

It will be a 9-mile long, 10-foot-wide paved multipurpose trail connecting Northstar Village with the town of Truckee and ultimately Lake Tahoe.

The total cost of the Martis Valley Trail is estimated to be between $10 million and 13 million. More than $1 million has come from transient occupancy tax funds generated in North Lake Tahoe.

The funds approved this week will support completion of environmental review of a trail segment proposed to cross federal land, as well as design and construction of the segment between the Northstar Drive roundabout and Northstar Village. Construction of those segments could begin as early as 2018.
