Tahoe City to host national sailing race

More than 120 people representing five countries will be in Tahoe City July 19-23 for the U.S. Laser National Championships.

More than 25 local Tahoe Laser sailors will be competing in the event.

There are two divisions: the original more powerful standard rig for bigger sailors, and the smaller sail Radial rig for youth and lighter sailors.

The Laser is the most popular sailboat in the world. It is a single-handed, one-design class, which means that all of the boats are identical and cannot be modified. With every boat the same, it comes down to the sailors’ skill and athletic ability to win regattas.
